Try to picture in your head what these creatures would look like with the following features:
shaped like a horse
a golden crown-like object on their head
a face of a man
hair of a woman
teeth like lion's teeth
a breastplate of iron
wings with the ability to flap as if many chariots are horses are rushing in them
a tail like a scorpions tail
Is there any doubt that a creature, such as the one with the traits above, would be described as a alien, an extra-terrestrial being?

Introduction Many commentaries on the Bible, when attempting to explain what John was trying to describe when he saw what he saw as recorded in Revelation chapter 9, interpret many of the descriptions in the chapter as referring to an army of Arabs of the Muslim faith led by Mohammed in the 6th and 7th centuries. In order to make this leap of faith, these commentators had to stretch the realms of symbolic interpretation well beyond their boundaries.
This author will concede that this chapter is without a doubt the most puzzling in the entire Bible, and the images seen by John are excruciatingly difficult to fathom. However, that is not an excuse to engage in the type of fanciful interpretation that these learned men of the past have done.

The unlocking of the Abyss releases a horde of depraved demons upon mankind. God uses them as an instrument of His wrath for five months; they are allowed to torment those on the earth who don't have God's seal on their foreheads (Rev. 7:2-8).
In his commentary on Revelation 9:1, 3, Daniel H. Stern writes:
1 The star is not Satan (despite Isaiah 14:12, Lk 10:17), but an angel, who still has the key at 20:1. The Abyss is not Sh'ol (as at Ro 10:7), but a place where demonic beings are imprisoned (vv. 2-11, 11:7, 17:8, 20:2-3). In the Apocrypha, God is called, "You who close and seal the Abyss with your fearful and glorious name"
3 Demonic monsters are released which fly like locusts (Exodus 10:12-20; Joel 1:4, 2:4-14) and sting like scorpions (Ezekiel 2:6, Lk 11:12) (Jewish New Testament Commentary, pp. 815, 816).

So in this we see that there are different places, or different 'levels' of confinement for angels who sin against God. Some in Heaven {Rev 12:9}, some in the Bottomless pit {Rev 9:2-3...}, and some in Tartarus {2nd Pet 2:4}. Are all these places in the same place? Are all these places the same place? We don't know, at least I don't know, I guess that there are some things that man isn't to know.
